Title: Japanese-Brazilians Living in Japan: The Case of Brazilians Families Living in Gifu Prefecture and their Problems on Adaptation

Abstract: Migration is an event that includes gains and losses resulting in changes to the personal and the family life of immigrants. About 300,000 Japanese-Brazilians, called dekassegui, are living in Japan. This migration process began in the decade of 1980s and still continues. Many of these dekasseguis have adaptation-related problems in Japan and also, re-adaptation-related problems when they go back to Brazil. Facing this situation, they need to make changes in the pre-migration plans, restructuring their lives and aims. However, this restructuring may be stressful, resulting in emotional problems. Considering the family as an important social support factor, the objective of this presentation is to explain about the adaptation of Japanese-Brazilians families living in Japan, focusing on two main aspects: Transnational Migration and Acculturative Stress. The participants of my study were Japanese-Brazilian families living in Gifu, central Japan. Moreover, I will to explain about the educational and adaptation-related situation of the Brazilian students of a Brazilian School at the city of Minokamo in Gifu prefecture.
